Maroon 5 Wins Favourite Band at 2013 People’s Choice Awards

Maroon 5 picked up the award for Favorite Band at the 2013 People’s Choice Awards (Jan. 9). Singer and ‘The Voice’ coach Adam Levine may have sparked a ‘New Couple Alert’ with his acceptance speech, since he referenced Taylor Swift. Wait, what?

Well, here’s what happened. Swift won Favorite Country Artist a few minutes earlier and presenter/actress Olivia Munn joked that T. Swizzle wrote ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ about her. She then pretended to clutch the award and refused to hand it over to Swift, who deadpanned, “This always happens,” which is a reference to Kanye West firebombing her VMAs acceptance speech a few years ago.

So, Levine stumbled for words, saying, “Thank you very much and everyone gets up here and thanks the fans and that’s boring, but being in a band it’s the fans… Taylor Swift is so charming.”

He literally interrupted himself, and then said, “She got up here and said, ‘This always happens,’ that’s genius, by the way. Damn you, Swift.”

He probably meant that since she wins so many awards, she is in the position to have people mess with her speeches. It was cute, and really had nada to do with winning Favorite Band, but perhaps this will spark some communication and tweets between the two, leading to a little something, something? You never, like, ever, know.

Eat your heart out, Harry Styles. Your ex-girlfriend knocked ‘em dead tonight in her elegant winter white Ralph Lauren frock with a plunging neckline, paired with bronzed, smoky eyes. Fly back to the States and win her back!
