Louis Schwizgebel To Give Recital

Dame Fanny Waterman DBE, teacher and founder and chair of the Leeds International Piano Competition, describes young pianist Louis Schwizgebel as ‘simply breath-taking’. She said: ‘Louis Schwizgebel has stunned audiences all over the world, and this really is a joy and rare treat to hear a young man who is destined for great things. I really urge audiences not to miss him with such an intimate performance that will no doubt become a rarity the bigger his name gets.’

Schwizgebel will be performing at Harrogate’s The Old Swan Hotel as part of the Harrogate International Spring Sunday Series.

Louis Schwizgebel’s career was launched in 2005 when he was seventeen and won the ‘Coup de Coeur Breguet’ at the Geneva International Music Competition. He went on to wow American audiences, with the Washington Post saying he played with a ‘powerhouse technique, a sly sense of humour, wonderfully expressive phrasing, and seething passion, showing also sensitivity to subtle but essential details of touch and tone.’

The jury awarded Schwizgebel 2nd prize at 2012’s Leeds International Piano Competition. In the final round he performed Beethoven Piano Concerto No 4 with The Hallé Orchestra conducted by Sir Mark Elder broadcast on television BBC Four and BBC Radio 3.

Dame Fanny urges that ‘this is a recital not to be missed.’
