Camp Bestival Goes Retro This Year

Camp Bestival goes back to the 80s with new additions, Heaven 17, The Proclaimers and Nik Kershaw, all newly announced for Camp Bestival 2013 this August.

Scottish twin outfit and passionate long distance walkers The Proclaimers, 80s icon Nik Kershaw and chart bothering synth poppers Heaven 17 have all joined the Camp Bestival 2013 line-up.

Sam Lee & Friends, Molotov Jukebox, Ady Suleiman and DJ sets from Craig Charles and Dapper Dan have also been newly added to the line-up.

The Cuban Brothers will keep up the theme with just one of their alter egos, Barry Peters, and his set of ‘mega-hits’ from the era of the rubik’s cube and Thatcher.

Rob da Bank made his allegiances clear: “As a child of the 80s I love that era. One hit wonders sit happily alongside some of the most visionary pop and electronic records ever made in my record collection. Heaven 17 fall into that latter category and still kill it wherever they go so I can’t wait to see and more importantly hear them at Camp Besti. The Proclaimers are an incredible festival act for a good old sing-along and Nik Kershaw is a boyhood idol too. Wrap it all up with Barry Peters and his Cuban Brother friends hosting an 80s night and it’s time for some serious leg warmers, rah rah skirts and fingerless lace glove action…well that’s what I’ll be wearing anyway!”

Richard Hawley, Levellers and Labrinth have all previously been named as headliners at Camp Bestival 2013, which takes place at Lulworth Castle, Dorset from 2-4 August. The festival, curated by Josie & Rob da Bank, will have an ‘Around the World’ theme this year.

The family-friendly bash will include over 100 Free Things for Kids to Do including arts, shows, workshops, funfair and more besides. Mr Tumble will return, after his acclaimed main stage appearance in 2012, and other treats for the kids include Dick n Dom, Earth’s Dinosaur Zoo and the first ever festival set from Horrible Histories, who present ‘Barmy Britain’.
