Kasabian Keyboardist Customises Piano

Kasabian keyboard player Ben Kealey has customised a piano as part of an art project at Curve theatre. When Ben is not touring with the band, he salvages abandoned pianos to create art installations which people can play.

He unveiled the piano called Urban Jungle, which is covered in animal print, at the Curve this month.

As part of the launch, pupils from Guthlaxton College, in Wigston, staged musical performances.

Members of the public will be able to play the piano at selected times while it is displayed in the Curve cafe.

Ben said: “With my Urban Art Piano project I hope to save and restore abandoned instruments for future generations to enjoy, rather than seeing them as another candidate for the landfill.

“Preserving these pianos is not just eco-friendly, but by bringing them back to life I seek to preserve something from the past.”

Members of the public are invited to play the bespoke instrument daily between 4pm and 6pm for free 15-minute sessions.
