Jon Lord Tribute Concert

Artists from across the industry will pay homage to the late Deep Purple keyboardist. The concert will take place in London’s Royal Albert Hall on April 4, 2014.

Artists confirmed so far include Deep Purple members Ian Paice, Roger Glover, Don Airey and Steve Morse, as well as Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson, along with Rick Wakeman, Joe Brown and classical tenor Alfie Boe.

More names will be announced in the months ahead, with the evening hosted by BBC’s Bob Harris.

Lord passed away July 16, 2012 at the age of 71 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Along with his talents as a musician, Lord contributed his songwriting skills to many of his band’s biggest hits – including “Smoke On The Water”.

However Lord is well known for his orchestral work, “Concerto for Group & Orchestra,” first performed at Royal Albert Hall with Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969 under the baton of Malcolm Arnold. The concert was repeated again in 1999.

Jon retired from Deep Purple in 2002.
