The Twin Cities music community is mourning the loss of a legend after it was announced Monday that Jeanne Arland Peterson died in late June.
Her family, known as Minnesota’s First Family of Music, announced that she died on June 23. Peterson was hired as a staff vocalist and pianist at WCCO Radio while she was still in high school. She did that for more than 20 years and also spent three years replacing her husband as the organist for the Minnesota Twins.
Jeanne Peterson was the second woman inducted to the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame. She was also inducted to the Museum of Broadcasting Hall of Fame and received the Midwest Jazz Masters’ award.
Peterson was known best as a jazz pianist with five CDs to her credit and had been recording her sixth CD with Bruce Swedien, a Grammy winner and Minnesota native. She is survived by five children. Peterson was 91.
