World-Renowned Pianist David Helgott Heading To Tasmania
Acclaimed pianist David Helfgott is returning to Tasmania next week for a statewide tour starting in Burnie. His first show will be at Burnie’s Arts and Function Centre on Tuesday.
Helfgott’s solo recital will include popular romantic works from a repertoire of great composers.
“David Helfgott is a virtuoso pianist who touches the hearts of all who hear him and who brings joy to concert-goers of all ages,” Deputy Mayor Sandra French said.
“We are thrilled to have him here as part of Burnie Shines.”
Described as an exuberant musical genius, Helfgott inspired the movie Shine which won Geoffrey Rush a string of industry accolades in 1997 including an Academy Award and a BAFTA.
A camera rigged above Helfgott at his Burnie show will project a close-up view of his fast fingers on the piano keys to the audience.
Helfgott will also perform at Launceston’s Princess Theatre on Thursday, October 31, and at Hobart’s Theatre Royal on Saturday, November 2.
