Concert Dedicated to Famous Azerbaijani Pianist Held in Vienna

A concert dedicated to famous pianist, the People’s Artist of Azerbaijan, and professor, Zohrab Adigozelzade was held at the Azerbaijani Culture Center in Vienna on November 29.

Opening the event, Head of Azerbaijan Cultural Center Leyla Gasimova said that well-known Azerbaijani pianist Adigozalzade had been associated with Vienna and its music for a long time. He had frequently given concerts with well-known orchestras.

Gasimova, emphasizing joint arrangement of the event with the Meeting Point of Culture organization said the main objective of the cultural center is not only to keep focus on their activities, but also contribute to intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding as part of joint projects with other organizations in Austria.

Head of the music department of Culture Meeting Point organization, PhD in musicology Farah Tahirova broadly spoke about the life and creativity of Adigozalzade, and his contributions to the development of classical music in Azerbaijan and Turkey.

She noted that, Adigozalzada gave a concert for the first time in Austria 15 years ago on November 28, 1998 together with the Yunus Emre quartet.

Tahirova expressed her gratitude to the Azerbaijan Cultural Center for the promotion of culture and the outstanding personalities of Azerbaijan.

A joint concert of the Yunus Emre quartet at the Anadolu University in Eskisehir (Turkey) with pianist Farid Adigozalzade followed. The quartet and piano works of famous Azerbaijani and Turkish composers Gara Garaev, Ulvi Cemal Erkin, Fikrat Amirov and others were performed at the event.

Zohrab Adigozalzade was born on July 3, 1940 in Baku. After graduating from the State Conservatory in 1962, he worked as a teacher, lecturer, and a professor. He was a skillful performer of Azerbaijani, Russian and European compositions. Since 1990 until his death, he served as a department head of at the State Conservatory of Eskishehir Anadolu University.

He died on May 24, 2012.
