One-Handed Pianist Nicholas McCarthy to Play in Cheltenham

One of the world’s only one-handed pianists will treat classical music enthusiasts in Cheltenham to a special performance.

Nicholas McCarthy, who was born without his right hand, will play at the Pittville Pump Room on February 20 at 7.30pm.

The 24-year-old pianist, who is the patron of Carers Gloucestershire, has toured South Africa, played at the Kennedy Centre in Washington and performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

He first started playing the piano at 14 years old, and became the first one-handed pianist to graduate from the Royal College of Music.

He said: “I wanted to develop the standard idea of a concert to show what is possible with just one hand, and to break down the wall between audience and performer.”
