Award-Winning Pianist and Town Orchestra Join Forces

The Horsham Symphony Orchestra is delighted to welcome local award-winning concert pianist, Warren Mailley-Smith as soloist for the first of its two March concerts on Saturday, March 1, at The Capitol Horsham.

Warren will be performing Beethoven’s ‘Emperor’ Piano Concerto with the orchestra.

The musician went to school in Crawley before studying at the Royal College of Music where he won numerous postgraduate prizes.

He then took further private studies with Peter Feuchtwanger and the late Ronald Smith.

Warren made his solo debuts to critical acclaim at Wigmore Hall London and Carnegie Hall, New York. In 2011 he made his debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performing the ‘Emperor’ Concerto.

Warren has received more than thirty invitations to perform for the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace, Highgrove and Sandringham and is in increasing demand as a solo concert artist, having been described recently by Classic FM as “sensational”.

Warren’s solo career now sees him performing in festivals and concert venues across the UK, Europe and the US. He is currently Head of Keyboard at Worth School and is in demand for his teaching expertise both privately and in masterclasses.

The concert will also feature a performance of Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony. This was written in 1945 and was supposed to be a celebration in the style of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

But Shostakovich expressed his opposition to Stalin’s regime by choosing instead to write a relatively short symphony, whose general character seems carefree and light.

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets priced at £14, £12 for senior citizens and £5 for under 18s can be purchased from The Capitol Box Office on 01403 750220 or www.thecapitolhorsham.com.
