Acclaimed Pianist Gives Recital at Stowe School

The acclaimed pianist Mei Yi Foo is giving a recital in the Ugland Audiorium at Stowe School at 7pm on April 30, as part of the school’s Chung Steinway concert series.

The Wednesday evening concerts, which celebrate the opening of Stowe’s new music school and the school’s new status as an all-Steinway school, are proving very popular.

The series will continue with soprano Philippa Dearlsey and pianist Simon Dearlsey on May 7 and concludes on May 14 with Jeremy Young and the Benyounes String Quartet.

Malaysian-born pianist and former Royal College of Music student Mei Yi Foo won Newcomer Of The Year at the BBC Music Magazine Awards 2013.

She has been described by The Independent as having a ”distinct character as a player” and, according to a recent review by David Nice on The Arts Desk, “her genius is now unquestionable”.

Mei Yi Foo, who appears regularly at major festivals worldwide, is set to continue to captivate audiences across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, at venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Finlandia Hall, Wigmore Hall, Athens Megaron and Salle Gaveau.

She has worked alongside conductors such as Christian Arming, Darrell Ang, Matthias Bamert, Martyn Brabbins, Claus Peter Flor, János Fürst, Kirill Karabits, John Storgårds and Christopher Warren-Green.

Mei Yi Foo has performed with orchestras including the BBC Concert Orchestra, Bretagne Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony, Helsinki Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and London Chamber Orchestra.

A Stowe School spokesman said: “We feel very privileged to have Mei Yi Foo perform with us next week.”

Tickets are £8 (students £5) and include a complimentary glass of wine.
