Pianist Sues Theatre Owners After Finger is Severed

A renowned pianist is suing the owners of the Egyptian Theatre, after the tip of her left middle finger was severed after being caught in a defective restroom door.

Lucinda Carver filed the negligence/premises liability suit Friday against the theater and American Cinematheque. She is seeking unspecified damages.

A representative for the longtime Hollywood landmark could not be immediately reached.

According to the lawsuit, the accident occurred when Carver attended a film screening at the theater at 6712 Hollywood Blvd. on April 11.

“(Carver) will never regain the full use of her left middle finger and will have permanent pain and numbness in that area,” according to the complaint.

The theater owners should have known about the restroom door and either fixed it or warned guests of the problem with it, the suit states.

Carver has been the music director and conductor of the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra for 11 years and active in both the symphonic and operatic arenas, according to the website laphil.com. She has conducted at major music festivals, including Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Next Wave Festival, and the Orange County Performing Arts Center’s Eclectic Orange Festival, the website states.

The website of the USC Thornton School of Music says of Carver: “Lucinda Carver is a rare triple threat: a much beloved and highly acclaimed musician equally at home on the podium, at the keyboard, or in the lecture Hall.”
