Protect Our Live Music Venues In London

My Piano Lessons have been notified about the launch of the London Venues Task Force report. The report presents a number of recommendations which would protect London’s grassroots music venues. This has been written and researched by The Mayor of London’s Music Venues Taskforce, which consists of Mark Davyd (Music Venue Trust, Andrew Russell (Senior Planning Officer, Greater London Authority), Dave Webster (Musicians’ Union National Organiser, Live Performance), Auro Foxcroft (Village Underground), Jeff Horton (100 Club), Paul Broadhurst (Senior Cultural Policy Officer, GLA) and Tom Kiehl (Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs, UK Music).

Commenting on the launch of the report, Dave Webster from the MU said:

‘We hope that the London Mayor, Boris Johnson, will adopt the recommendations within the Report and ensure that the diminishing number of music venues in London can be preserved and new ones encouraged to open. Key to this will be the adoption of the Agent of Change principle. We are in danger of losing important venues where musicians can develop their skills and build their audiences.’
