Jamie Cullum launches the Yamaha Enspire in London

Yamaha Enspire has been launched in London by the award-winning pianist, songwriter and Yamaha Artist Jamie Cullum. He put the new instrument through its paces in an explosive performance with his band at London’s iconic Shard building. Yamaha Enspire is the 7th generation of Disklavier pianos. The most advanced instrument of its kind, Enspire brings together tradition and technology to offer pianists an immersive experience as well as exciting new ways to listen, learn and play.

The VIP launch event began with two well-known Cullum tracks performed by his band, but with Cullum himself absent. Instead, the Yamaha Enspire reproduced every note, emotion and dynamic of Cullum’s performance in a recording made earlier the same day. Cullum then appeared in person to finish the set and demonstrate the full potential of the new instrument.

Externally, Enspire is an elegant, handcrafted grand piano, but this traditional appearance belies the power of the state-of-the-art digital music technology concealed within. Enspire incorporates unique technology that allows it to play itself, record itself, be played remotely, and network with other Enspire instruments anywhere the world. Seeing this potential, Abbey Road Studios has recently become the first studio in Europe to install a Yamaha Enspire.

Cullum said: ‘This is a new type of piano that is true to Yamaha’s tradition and craftsmanship but opens up new creative potentials for musicians. The fact that it’s a self-contained recording studio and can connect musicians remotely anywhere in the world gives me as a musician many new ways to communicate and compose.’

The instrument’s unique technology also makes it possible to hear performances by some of the most famous artists in the world, downloaded from Yamaha’s extensive Pianosoft software library. The Enspire will replay full orchestral and vocal arrangements, with the piano keys and pedals exactly replicating the physical actions of the pianist at the time of the original recording.

Enspire offers connectivity with Yamaha’s acclaimed MusicCast multi-room system and is controlled by iPhone, iPad and iPod via the Enspire controller app. All models include Yamaha’s award-winning ‘Silent’ capability, which allows Enspire to be played on headphones.
