Piano Restorations launches Leverett Pianos

Piano Restorations is renowned worldwide for its piano rebuilding expertise. Now, the booming Buckinghamshire business is expanding to include piano sales. As well as brand new pianos, Leverett Pianos will offer an wide range of rebuilt Steinway, Bluthner, Bechstein and Bosendorfer pianos – all hand-furnished to Piano Restorations’ ‘better than new’ condition, and available at a fraction of the cost.

Where a brand new Steinway piano may cost an enthusiast upwards of £80,000, Leverett Pianos will sell a restored version from around £36,000.

Piano Restorations has restored pianos for the world’s most famous concert pianists, composers and celebrities including: Stephen Fry, Artur Pizarro, conductor Barry Wordsworth, composer Colin Mathews, comedian Bill Bailey, designer Ted Baker, Livingstone Studios London, City Lit London, Concert Hall Faro, Concert Hall Lisbon, Concert Hall Madeira and Fou Tsong – one of the first major Chinese pianists to go global.

Established by Colin, Derek and Paul Leverett, the family business has over 160 years combined experience in the piano trade, and its goal is always the same – to restore its customer’s pianos to a condition superior to when they were brand new. Their restorations are unique because all the work is done by hand.

The pianos are fitted with traditional bespoke soundboards, created in Piano Restorations’ 5000sqft piano facility. These create an equal or better resonance from the day the piano was first built. There is an exceptional amount of care and dedication that goes into to restoring a piano – where it takes 220 hours to create a brand new piano, it can take up to 240 hours to restore a piano to the high quality of a Leverett Piano.

With the family’s new venture, Leverett Pianos will source worn out pianos, rebuild them using Piano Restoration’s world famous techniques, and then make them available for general sale.

Another quality that differentiates the Leverett’s work is that they are the world’s only Bluthner trained team. In 1955, Colin and Derrick Leverett started working for Bluthner pianos in Perivale, London. In 1992, Colin’s son Paul Leverett joined his father and uncle at Bluthners and became the last person to complete the full Bluthner Piano Restoration Apprenticeship.

In April 2003, Bluthner UK went into administration, however with Bluthner’s still requiring high quality rebuilt pianos, and with the gap in the market for high quality restoration work, in September 2003, Colin, Derek and Paul founded Piano Restorations.

Leverett Pianos’ website – www.leverettpianos.co.uk – will go live on Friday 9th December.
