Our piano tutor is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and teacher based in Erdington, Birmingham. He specializes in jazz piano and composition after studying both disciplines intensively up to postgraduate level.

He achieved a BMus (Honours) in Classical Music from Manchester University in 2011, studying piano with Les Chisnall and composition with Richard Whalley, Philip Grange and Camden Reeves. He then went on to complete an MMus Performance degree (Jazz Piano) in 2012 at Leeds College of Music receiving tuition from Jamil Sheriff. He is currently under the tutelage of Kit Downes and Gwilym Simcock.

As well as being active as a jazz pianist, performing particularly in Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds, he is currently writing and recording jazz compositions for his trio, ‘Dave Bristow Trio’ and jazz/rock songs for a new group called ‘Planes’.​

He is an experienced teacher of piano, music theory and composition to students of all ages and abilities.

His main musical influences are Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, John Scofield, Jimi Hendrix, Igor Stravinsky, Olivier Messiaen, J.S. Bach, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Radiohead, Mike Patton, Frank Zappa, Muse, Foo Fighters, Aphex Twin and Prince.

He  is also a keen guitarist, violinist, songwriter and arranger.
