My Piano Lessons Tutor’s Music Used By The BBC

My Piano Lessons tutor Rod Pooley has been composing music for the past 3 years and has compiled an impressive library of over 92 compositions which has caught the attention of the BBC.

Rod’s music was recently used by the BBC in one of their Panorama episodes titled ‘Who’s Paying Your Doctor’.

Rod started playing organ from the age of 7 and took up the piano when he was 10. He was lucky enough to have a great London based jazz pianist with an excellent classical technique to guide him through his learning years. It wasn’t long before it became clear music was going to be Rod’s profession.

Rod always loved jazz and showed a real flair for the genre with a skill for improvisation and composition.

He won 4 major national organ playing competitions. At 14 the Young Theatre Organist of the Year, At 17 and 18 the National Organist of the Year and at 21 the UK Yamaha Electone Festival.

Rod’s family moved to Eastbourne from Welling in Kent in 1981 where he developed his gigging career which now runs alongside his teaching and his six piece band called Dirty Martini Swing Band.

In Eastbourne he met up with a long standing composing friend James Asher with whom has had several successful library albums. After seeing Rod perform locally, James who owns Starfield Studio in Eastbourne, saw a potential for Rod to get into the commercial composing industry which he had many years of experience. It is from this collaboration that he has now composed 4 commercial albums from which the BBC and others have sourced Rod’s compositions from major music libraries.
